Blustering winds from the southwest brought bullets of rain, booming winds and whitecaps on the Intracoastal Waterway east of Churchill Road.

Meanwhile, no swimming was allowed on Palm Beach's public beach. Lifeguards were busy battening up their stands, and the tall palm trees were bending to the breeze.

At 9 a.m., the clouds on the beach were had started to part and the sun peeked through. The National Weather Service reported 6 1/2 inches of rain at the Palm Beach International Airport. THAT will make a dent in the drought.
