CONSTRUCTION ON PALMETTO STREET

(From Palm Beach Post)
If you've tried to turn down Palmetto Street lately, you've bumped into the city's latest project.
The repairs started because residents beefed that motorists use the Broadmoor neighborhood's 11 streets - each 50 feet wide - to speed between Dixie Highway and Olive Avenue.
"Residents wanted more neighborhood friendly rather than giant thoroughfares," south-side city commissioner Bill Moss explained.

But a $7 million proposal to narrow the streets has mushroomed into a $22 million project to do much more.
The original plan to narrow the streets turned into replacing them. Then engineers found that water and sewer pipes under the streets needed to be replaced. Drainage for storm water is busted and needs fixin'.
And while the place is torn up, the city figures let's throw in some oak trees.
